4th dimension: Music (Thought #1)

Music is the door to another dimension. If I crank it up a little loud in my earbuds and I hear sounds from the dimension in front of my face, I feel like I'm not even there. Maybe the fifth dimension is music. Maybe when we all finally realize that, we'll see that it is why when we listen to music loud enough, we can feel others in the dimension, their feelings, their very cores... when I listen to music in that way I feel a presence, like a shadow is enveloping me, protecting and understanding me... Maybe others are feeling my pain, somehwere in the world. I can feel it. When I have my earbuds only in one ear it's like I'm torn apart in a strange way. I don't understand this dimension. But I will, soon enough, after enough thinking.

Some people are deeply connected to music, especially during adolescence where the search for who you are can be helped with some truthful lyrics; meaning some people almost have a need to listen to music as often as they can. Therefore music can be categorized as some type of craving, almost like a drug. Now, there is an infinite number of musical categorizations; but I will start with the basics:

Orchestral music is something one might listen to in order to feel a connection between a human and an object (such as the connection of the player to his instrument), so one that might give some hope and perhaps some inexplicably deep feeling of intensity.

Film music, if you've seen the movie, is sometimes to remember some scenes in the movie—or simply to enjoy listening to the music from a different perspective than that of a viewer.

Recent pop: you know it, the latest hit that you've heard on the radio or on someone's iPod. That music generally transports you to one of two worlds: one where you find deep meaning in the lyrics (for example if it applies to your current situation) or one where you like the beat and the musicality of the song.

Dubstep sometimes tells a story (I know of a great user on SoundCloud called primitivedubstep) but lets you fantasize about what it could mean.

Technological music is more of a static genre—more repetitive, if you will—but it sometimes brings the listener into a trance that is almost psychedelic.

Reggae is a genre I am less familiar with. But it generally implies a fun atmosphere, usually bringing a relaxing, cooling feeling to the listener.

Rock usually holds a feeling of rebellion—either telling a past story of misery, or focusing on a longing to be free, or simply expressing rage or depression. It can have a very intimate feeling.

There are countless more genres—but I will stick to these for now. Many people discover themselves in music, I know I have.

This dimension was made for me to discover, and I intend to share it with the world. Which is why while writing this text I thought of starting a blog in which I would introduce my thoughts, however strange they may be...

Maybe books are a dimension, too... But I feel they are less intense than music. Maybe I'll write about it later.
